Carmichael East Coal Project

The Project

The Carmichael East Coal Project is located in the northern region of the Galilee Basin in Central Queensland, Australia.

The project is contained within the boundaries of Exploration Permit for Coal 1080 (EPC 1080), located approximately 180km west of the township of Clermont. EPC 1080 covers an area of 790 km2 and contains 249 sub blocks which Waratah Coal has been granted in November 2007. The Carmichael East Project builds on the initial success of Waratah Coal’s exploration of its North Alpha Project which targeted the seven principal coal seams of the Galilee Basin. Historical geological bore holes and data from the adjoining Adani Galilee Project suggests that the seven seam model extends to EPC 1080.

Geology

Bandana Formation – Three distinct seams have been identified within the Bandana Formation: AB Seam (12 -18m), B split (1-2 m), and the C (3-4m) seam. Of the three, seam AB is considered to be of economic significance and is projected to subcrop at the northeastern part of EPC1080

Colinlea Sandstone – Four seams occur within the Colinlea Sandstone: D1 Seam, (4-6m) D2/D3 Seam (8-10). E Seam (1-2) and the F Seam (1-5m). All four seams are considered of resource potential with the D seams proving to be more contiguous across the basin relative to the E and F Seams. Approximately 60-90 m of inter-burden separate the AB seam of the Bandana Formation from the D1 Seam of the Colinlea Formation.
